Firefox recently released the newest web browser in it’s arsenal, dubbed Quantum. This new browser purports to be faster than Google Chrome and all previous versions of Firefox. If you are still using Chrome or some other browser, it may be time to make the switch. Here’s what you need to know about the new release and how to make the most of using it.

Why and How Firefox Created Quantum

Memory usage and battery consumption are primary concerns for many consumers, so Firefox created Quantum to help users conserve resources on any device. In addition to a browser version for desktop and laptop computers, the new release also includes variations for iOS and Android mobile devices.

To create this new browser, Firefox observed how actual users browse the web, taking note of the features and tasks that were most important. Armed with all of that data, the creators incorporated a variety of performance improvements, as well as a new CSS engine, designed to take full advantage of the capabilities that the latest hardware has to offer.

How to Make the Switch

Switching to Firefox Quantum couldn’t be easier. The browser takes just a few minutes to download and configure so you can get started using it right away. You can even import all of your bookmarks, passwords and settings from your previous browser, saving you time in getting set up. A handy wizard walks you through the process.

You’ll notice the difference immediately in terms of speed and functionality. Take some time to customise your theme as well, making the look of your browser exactly the way you like it. You can change everything from the colours to the placement of the various menu options. Firefox built several options into the browser. You can find additional choices in the Firefox theme store, too.

Making the Most of Firefox Quantum

Firefox Quantum is packed with new features and capabilities. Follow these tips to get the most out of using it:

  • Use the search bar. Google is the default search engine for Firefox Quantum, but the search bar enables you to utilise other search engines. The browser has over 60 search engines built in so you can use your preferred search method with ease.
  • Save pages to read later. The Pocket app is built into Quantum, allowing you to save links as you browse so you can come back to them later. Pages are saved so you can look at them either online or offline.
  • Switch between your computer and your phone. The new browser enables you to sync your browser between your desktop or laptop and your mobile devices. Simply click on the three-dot menu button to beam your currently active page from one device to another.
  • Maximise functionality with extensions. You’ll find a variety of extensions in Firefox’s store to help you customise your browser and incorporate the functions that matter most to you. There are extensions for a variety of popular apps so you can browse through the offerings to choose the best ones to meet your needs.

With the new Firefox Quantum browser, you’ll never have to wait for sluggish page loads again. The browser incorporates tutorials to help you learn all about the new features; be sure to take advantage of all the information available to you. While there may be a slight learning curve to get going at first, within a day or so, you should be confident in using all of the features Firefox Quantum has to offer.
